On the morning of April 12, 2016, for the first time a group of Sisters of the Aliança de Santa Maria set off from Valença do Minho towards Santiago de Compostela guided by Friar Pedro Perdigão of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual.
“An experience
that took on the likeness
of a pilgrim”
_______________
An experience that took on the likeness of a pilgrim, of one who “with neither purse, nor money, nor sandals” (Lk 10:4) touches the life of the passer-by and carries within the opportunity to live all things as new, the experience of the disciple who follows the way, the only Way that is Jesus Christ.
A way that proved itself a prefiguration of an exodus that entailed a no-return yet unfolded in the normality of common repetitive days, as light and hope, soaking in all occasions of love.
A way marked by rain, an exodus in perfect unity;
A way marked by sore feet, an exodus in conscientious attention;
A way marked by pain and tiredness, an exodus in fraternal kindness. Much more than taking steps, the way was a “new day”, that in a prayerful exodus, was reborn each dawn with words of confidence: “Whatever will be, will be good, that’s all”
