The Jubilee, or Holy Year, is a special year, a powerful time of Grace and Mercy, of Forgiveness and Hope, which is ordinarily celebrated every 25 years (the last one was the great Jubilee of the Incarnation in 2000).

The first Jubilee in history dates back to the year 1300, with Pope Boniface VIII, who sought to grant the request of the crowds who flocked to St. Peter's Square for a total forgiveness of sins, for fear of the imminence of the end of the world at the turn of the century. This "total forgiveness" is the so-called "plenary indulgence" which still characterizes the Jubilee today and which can be defined as the fullness of God's mercy, which is given to man to free him from all the consequences of sin and allow him to live a new life, purified and reconciled with God and with others.
