JUBILEE CHRONICLE
Jubilee Chronicles

Did you know that?

Sr. Ana Felício
Sister of the Covenant of St. Mary
The Jubilee is characterized by the presence of four Holy Doors in Rome's four major basilicas: St. Peter's, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major and St. Paul Outside the Walls.

These are doors that are always closed; they have a wall that completely covers them, in which a box containing the keys to the door is sealed. This wall is destroyed when a Jubilee is celebrated and, during that year, the Holy Door is always open, to offer everyone an "extraordinary journey" to salvation. This is no ordinary thing, this whole ritual tells us that something extraordinary is happening.

The Holy Door is a symbol of Christ, because he himself said: "I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved" (Jn 10:9). Crossing the Holy Door expresses the decision to follow Jesus, the "door" to the Father.
