Pope Francis

For the second time in the history of the Church, the Jubilee Year sees the moment of the sede vacante. The first time was during the Jubilee of 1700, which began with Pope Innocent XII and ended with Pope Clement XI.

In this Holy Year 2025, on April 21, Easter Monday, Pope Francis returned to the arms of the Father, like a pilgrim of hope heading towards the great goal to which we are all called, "the homeland which is in heaven" (Phil 3:20). He left after having left a blessing on us all, the Urbi et Orbi blessing, that is, "to the city and to the world", on the Sunday of the Lord's Resurrection.

The Jubilee continued, adapted. On the weekend of April 25-27, the Jubilee was planned for teenagers, who didn't give up on the trip and were able to attend Pope Francis' funeral, along with hundreds of thousands of other people, as well as the Eucharistic Celebration on Mercy Sunday.

What an enormous grace to be able to accompany the Holy Father in his last moments on this earth. As Cardinal Re recalled at the funeral Mass: "Pope Francis used to conclude his speeches and meetings by saying: 'Don't forget to pray for me'. Dear Pope Francis, we now ask you to pray for us and to bless the Church from heaven!"
