Lay Retreat | May and June 2026



“Making ourselves see ourselves in God” was the theme of the lay retreats held from May 29-31, at the Seminary of Our Lady of Grace of Penafirme, and from June 5-7, at the Diocesan House of Our Lady of Help, in Albergaria-a-Velha.

20 people from various locations within the Patriarchate of Lisbon participated in the Penafirme retreat, and 19 people from the dioceses of Aveiro, Porto, and Leiria-Fátima participated in the Albergaria a Velha retreat. The themes for the first retreat were led by Fr. António Matos, parish priest of Alto do Lumiar, and for the second, by Fr. Ivo Santos, parish priest of Peniche.

The light that pierced the lives and hearts of the Little Shepherds when Our Lady, opening her hands, communicated to them the intense “clarity” of God's Light, was felt to be the light that illuminated the lives and hearts of all who lived these days of retreat and silence. The joy of encountering God marked their faces; words were limited to express everything, and gratitude to Our Lord was spontaneous and profound.

Living from the Light and for the Light is the challenge for the path that opens up each day for those of us who have shared in the grace and presence of our God!
