About the Mantle of Our Lady of the Olive Tree

"A great sign appeared in heaven: a Woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet; on her head was a crown of twelve stars." Rev 12:1

This verse offers us an eschatological reading of salvation and points out, with great brilliance, the promise of God's faithfulness, at every moment of life, to those who are faithful to him.

Our Lady, raised to heaven in her Assumption, shows us the way to holiness.

The Woman of the Apocalypse is the same one the Little Shepherds tell us is brighter than the sun, who, concerned about our dramas, comes to teach us how to live.

She is the one who, accepting to be the Mother of God, receives the whole of humanity into her lap and under her mantle, for whom she intercedes, as she did at Cana.

All those who have had the grace to see her speak of her incomparable beauty: Bernardete de Lourdes left us the testimony that she wouldn't mind dying just to have the grace to see her again; Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta, unanimously, when asked, never tire of repeating: "Oh, what a beautiful Lady.

It's no wonder, then, that all those who love her, throughout the centuries as well as today, have shown gratitude and affection towards such a solicitous Mother.

In the image we see the precious mantle, embroidered in gold on silver-gilt llama fabric enriched with silk embroidery and gold metallic lace, a true work of art, a gift from King João V who, cured of his ailments through the intercession of Our Lady of the Olive Tree, gave it to her as a token of his immense love and gratitude.

Anonymous hands that tell us about the faith of these people, tell us that great desires are born in the heart, that faith makes us overcome difficulties, that love for the Mother of God is still alive in the souls of believers.

We can never be silent in our gratitude to such an attentive Mother. She, the Lady of the Olive Tree or any other invocation, is a zealous Mother who listens to her children.

May Our Lady wrap us in her mantle, intercede for us and heal us.

And whether dressed in gold, sunshine, white or any other color, let prayer be the cloak that covers her with our love.
